SIMPLE DAL(PAPPU)

Dal is prepared in many ways. Many different varieties of dals are used. I mainly use toor dal and moong dal. I have learnt this recipe from one of my cousin. It is a very good recipe for babies and toddlers too. You can reduce the spice level for babies and toddlers. This recipe goes well with rice as well as with chapatis too. I have prepared this recipe by using only toor dal. You can try with moong dal too or mix both. 

Ingredients:
3/4 cup Toor dal(soaked for 15-20 mins)
1/4 onion(finely chopped)
3-4 garlic cloves(crushed or finely chopped)
2-3 green chillies
1 red chilli
few curry leaves
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
pinch of Hing
few coriander leaves
ghee
salt

Method:
1. Pressure cook Toor dal by adding 2 cups of water for 4-5 whistles. Once the dal is cooked mash it nicely. Dal should neither be thick nor too watery. 
2. Add turmeric, hing, salt to the cooked dal and mix well.
3. In a pan add 3 tbsp ghee, mustard seeds, cumin seeds, red chilli and curry leaves. Once the mustard seeds splutter add onions, garlic and green chillies and fry until onions and garlic turn light brown. Now add this seasoning to the dal.Boil the dal for 2- 3 mins. Garnish with coriander leaves. Serve hot and enjoy with hot rice or chapatis!!!
