CHAYOTE KOOTU(CHOW CHOW KOOTU)

I had one chayote today was totally confused what to cook with it. I always prepare sambar or majjige huli(mor kuzhambu). Thought of doing something different. I had watched how to prepare chayote kootu in one of the tv channels. I tried it and it came out good. Thought of sharing with you all. Kootu goes well with rice and chapati too.

Ingredients:
1 chayote(chow chow or seeme badanekai)
1/4 cup Toor dal or moong dal
1/4 cup frozen or fresh green peas
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
1/4 tsp urad dal
1/2 tbsp sambar powder
pinch of Hing
few curry leaves
oil
1 Tsp ghee
salt

Ingredients for grinding:
3 tbsp shredded coconut
1 tbsp fried gram
1/2 tsp cumin seeds
1 red chilli

Method:
1. Peel and wash chayote. Cut them into medium pieces. If you are using toor dal soak them in water for 20 mins and pressure cook them till it becomes mushy and keep it aside. If ur using moong dal you need not have to pressure cook separately you can pressure cook along with chayote.
2. In a pressure cooker add chayote, (cooked toor dal or if you are using moong dal you can add directly), frozen peas, turmeric, sambar powder, required salt. Pressure cook for 3 whistles.
3. In a blender grind all the ingredients mentioned under grinding to a fine paste by adding water. Once the pressure cooker cools down, add the ground mixture and boil for 3-4 mins.
4. In a small pan add 1 tbsp oil and ghee, mustard seeds, urad dal, curry leaves. Once the mustard seeds splutter add hing and add them to the kootu.
Serve hot and enjoy with hot rice or chapati!!!
