SIMPLE YELLOW MOONG DAL SAMBAR(SIDE DISH FOR IDLI AND DOSA)
Yellow Moong Dal is extremely light and easy to digest. It is a good source of proteins and is highly recommended for sick peoples. Different recipes are cooked with yellow moong dal. I usually prepare this sambar which goes well with idli and dosa. I have learnt this recipe from my mother-in-law. This is a very simple recipe and easy to cook. It takes very less time to cook.

Ingredients:
1/2 cup yellow moong dal
1/4 onion(if its large in size) or 1/2 onion(if its medium in size)
4-5 garlic cloves
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
small marble size tamarind
1 tomato(finely chopped)
4-5 red chillies
1/4 tsp mustard seeds
few curry leaves
pinch of Hing
salt
2 tbsp oil

Method:
1. Wash and soak yellow moong dal for 10-15 mins.
2. Take a pressure cooker add yellow moong dal, onions(finely chopped), tomato, red chillies, garlic, turmeric, tamarind, 2 cups of water, required salt and pressure cook for 5-6 whistles.
3. After the cooker cools down, mash the ingredients in the cooker using a hand blender. See to that you don't blend it like a puree. It should be mashed coarsely.
4. In a pan add oil, mustard seeds, curry leaves, Hing. Once the mustard seeds splutter add it to the dal and boil it for 2-3 mins. Serve hot.
Enjoy with hot idlis and dosas!!!!
