SIMPLE MUTTON BIRYANI

Mutton Biryani is our all time favorite. I regularly prepare mutton biryani. I have not grinded any ingredients in this recipe. You can try this recipe with lamb too. It goes well with chicken thokku and raita. Whenever I invite friends for lunch or dinner I usually prepare mutton biryani. I have learnt this recipe from one of my friend.

Serves - 2

Ingredients:
1.5 cup of seeraga samba rice or basmati rice(soak in water)
4-5 cloves
1/2 inch cinnamon
2 - 3 cardamom
1 onion(medium size) or 1/2 onion(big size)(cut into small pieces)
2 green chillies
few curry leaves
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
1 tomato
1 handful of mint leaves(washed and cut roughly)
1/2 tbsp red chilli powder(optional)
salt

Ingredients for marinating mutton:
1/2 lb mutton
1/2 - 3/4 tbsp red chilli powder
1 tbsp coriander powder
1 tbsp of ginger garlic paste
1/2 tbsp mutton masala powder(i used shakti mutton masala powder)
2 tbsp curd
1/4 tbsp turmeric powder
1/4 tbsp garam masala powder
salt

Method:
1. Wash the mutton nicely in water and keep it aside.
2. Marinate the mutton with all the ingredients[mentioned above in marinating section], mix well nicely and keep it in refrigerator for 2 hours or you can marinate the previous night too.
3. In a cooker add 4 tbsp oil, cloves, cinnamon, cardamom, Onion and green chillies and fry until onions turn light brown. Add ginger garlic paste and saute for 2-3 mins. Add tomatoes and fry until tomatoes are cooked and starts leaving oil by sides.
4. Next add marinated mutton, mint leaves and fry for 5 mins. Add 1 cup of water, close the cooker and pressure cook for 7-10 whistles until the mutton is completely cooked.
5. After the cooker cools open the lid and check whether the mutton is fully cooked. If its not cooked add another half cup of water and pressure cook for some more whistles. Once cooked add soaked rice and mix well. Add 2 cups of water, required salt and mix well. 
6. Once it starts boiling, mix well again and close the lid of the cooker, pressure cook for 2 whistles.
7. Once the cooker cools down open the lid and mix slowly from bottom and serve hot.

Enjoy with Onion or cucumber raita!!!
