CHICKEN THOKKU(CURRY VERSION)

Chicken Thokku is prepared in many ways. I have prepared using fresh grinded spice powder. It goes well as a side dish and also with hot rice. I usually prepare this recipe whenever I prepare chicken or mutton biriyani. My daughter and my husband liked it a lot.

Ingredients:
1/2 lb chicken
1 onion (medium in size) or 1/2 onion( bigger in size)
1 tomato(finely chopped)
1 green chilli
1 tbsp ginger garlic paste
1/2 tsp red chilli powder
1/4 tsp turmeric powder
salt

Ingredients For Grinding:
1/2 tbsp cumin seeds
1/2 tbsp fennel seeds
1 tbsp coriander seeds
1 tbsp black pepper
4-5 cloves
1/2 inch cinnamon
2 cardamoms

Method:
1. Wash and clean the chicken. Keep it aside.
2. In a pan, dry roast all the ingredients mentioned under grinding. While roasting you should get a good aroma and should be brown in color. Grind it into a fine powder.
3. In a pan add 3 tbsp oil, onions(finely chopped), green chilly and saute until the onions turn light brown. Next add ginger garlic paste and saute for 2-3 mins. Add tomatoes and fry until the tomatoes are fully cooked and the oil starts to separate.
4. Next add chicken, turmeric powder, red chilli powder and mix well for 2 mins. Add required salt and cook keeping the lid closed, frying in between. Once the chicken is almost cooked add the grinded spice powder and mix well. check for salt and add if required.
5. Cover and cook until the chicken is almost cooked, water is absorbed and the oil starts to separate. Switch off the flame.

Serve hot with hot rice or as a side dish!!!!
